If you consider yourself an all-star shopper, you’ll feel right at home in Puerto Rico. No matter where you are in the All-Star Island, there’s always a shopping mall within reach. There are over 20 shopping malls, including the largest one in the Caribbean. There are also unique shopping districts, from luxury designer fashions in Condado, to handmade artisan goods in Old San Juan

Old San Juan

One of Puerto Rico’s most historic destinations also happens to be shopping mecca. As you walk through Old San Juan’s cobblestone streets, you’ll find a great variety of jewelry stores, art galleries, vintage shops, and local artisans. You’ll get hungry from all the shopping, but luckily Old San Juan features some of the best dining in the entire island.

Rio Piedras Market

For the real Puerto Rican local market experience, head to Rio Piedras. There, you will find a large indoor Mercado de Rio Piedras (Rio Piedras Market) and blocks of outdoor sidewalk shopping where the locals go to shop! It is alive with the sights, sounds and colors of things for sale and people enjoying themselves
In the middle area of the building, there are probably more than 30 fruit/veggie vendors to chose from.Even if you don’t want to try some of the tropical fruit and veggies available, the beauty of the colorful fruit and vegetables, the artwork and daily life scenery make such great pictures.Outside of the market there are a number of blocks of local stores. Mostly lower-priced items, but you can pick up some great bargains on shoes, casual clothes and assorted stuff. Almost every store had racks of sale items outside — like a giant sidewalk sale.

Urban Market

Are you looking for a fun shopping experience in San Juan? On the first Sunday of every month, the Urban Market is set up at La Ventana al Mar in Condado.

Under big tents, this market holds about 40 or 50 vendors of local, Puerto Rican made products. Most of the vendors offer samples, so you can try before you buy. Everything is home grown or home made on the island. You’ll be able to find plants, flowers, soaps, breads, sangria, coffee, cheese, vinegars, ice cream … all sorts of things. It is a great stop.
