The underwater life in the waters of St. Barth is a truly a sight to behold, from the schools of silver fishes coming straight out if a Cousteau documentary the colorful parrot fishes, the gentle approachable green turtles, to the more ominuos looking sea creatures like moray eels, stingrays ,barracudas ,nurse sharks,lobsters and spindly crabs. Dolphins are not a rare sight around St Barth and Spotting whales playing around has became a regular sight for frequent visitors and locals from March to May.

St Barth is a wonderland for a water sports enthusiasts. The beaches of St Jean and Lorient offer some of the calmest waters for beginner surfers. Intermediate and Advanced surfers as well as body surfers may prefer the waves of Anse des Cayes ,Saline, Flamands and Toiny. Snorkling spots abound in a large number around St Barth, the best are Petite Anse de Marigot . Scuba diving lessons,equiment and trips are offered by diving schools from Gustavia. Water-skiing is available but jet skis are required to keep away from the beaches for safetly and noise considérations. Gentle winds can make sailing especially pleasent on the waters of St Jean Public and Colombier.

There are several great beaches to go surfing or bodyboarding on St Barts. You can rent gear by the day or week at Hookipa surf shop in Lorient, and walk across the street to Lorient beach and find some decent waves.

Exploring the variety of snorkeling and diving spots is an extremely gratifying experience. Colombier Beach, Petit de Anse, and Lorient Beach are three of the best places to explore offshore. Sea turtles, barracudas, parrot fish, and tons of coral are the reward when enjoying these two famous St Barts tourist attractions.
